Videos

I have a youtube channel with videos showing how I make some of this stuff! I'm really going to try and do more videos in 2019.

Glaze Recipes

These are not all of the glazes that I use, but rather the ones I either came up with from scratch or altered significantly from the original recipe. If you are looking for good sources for glaze recipes and information, check out John Britt's books for cone 10 and cone 6 temperatures. A little googling of Val Cushing will give you a good starting point as well.

*Note that application is everything with glazes. Thickness, layering, and clay body are all things to experiment with. The same recipe can look a million different ways depending on how you apply it to the surface.

Words

Over the years I have come across pearls of wisdom that have stuck with me. Usually it's a song lyric or some line from a book or something someone says. I think about most of these words every day, and they certainly help me navigate life's (and art's) twists and turns. I'm sharing them in case they might also affect you the way they have affected me.
"The best potters have the biggest shard piles."
- Tom Richards
"Everybody struggles with getting the best of what's in their hearts to their hands."
- David Zilli
"Take care of your body. It's the only thing that you can ask more of to get you through."
- Arthur Gonzalez
"It will all work out."
- Meema Binkley
"It takes ten years to really make a pot."
- Paul Flickinger
"It takes time."
- Anthony Green
"Nothing changes if nothing changes."
- Rheanna Binkley
"The world is a beautiful place, but we have to make it that way."
- David Bello
"A piece is done when it's new again."
- Lee John Nguyen
"Don't suffer it twice."
- Unknown

Clear Heels

Clear Heels is a Manistee based band that was only supposed to play one night of music together, but we all got along so well we've ended up playing a bunch of shows over the last several years. It's all covers of pop songs from the past 70 years. We like to say we play other peoples songs better than they did in the first place. I certainly know we have fun doing it!

Ender

All through high school and college, I played drums in a band called Ender. We recorded a fair amount of music and got mildly popular regionally. I'm really proud of the music that we made, so here is a link where you can listen to all of it. Start with Good News From The Stereo, probably.
